A 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle measuring 70 x 50 cm. Aescher - the mountain inn. AESCHER, the mountain inn, has seen many a proud face after the steep climb, for it has existed in its present form since 1860 and is thus one of the oldest mountain inns in Switzerland. In 1658, Reverend Paulus Ulmann was the first hermit to live in the hermitage at Wildkirchli.
By 1853, more than 20 men had followed his example and, as hermits and the first innkeepers, shaped the history of the Wildkirchli. Ever since, this mystical place has fascinated people across generations and inspired poets and artists to create ever new works. Bones of cave bears (dating from around 90,000 BC) and Stone Age tools used by Neanderthals (dating from around 50,000 BC), found in the Wildkirchli caves, are on display in the replica of the hermit's hut.
